A teacher and tutor with more than thirty years' experience working in both mainstream and independent schools. I have an Honours degree in English Literature and Linguistics from UEA and have written a dissertation about encouraging children to write. I am a mother of three and interested in all things green. I am in the process of setting up my TES shop and hope to launch my "Spagbag" resources which are suitable for both Primary and Secondary aged pupils.

This Power Point quiz revises plurals, commas, apostrophes for contractions, adverbs and capital letters. There is a passage for the audience to decipher featuring Joe which has lots of deliberate spelling mistakes in it.Joe prefers watching his favourite football team on TV rather than completing his homework. Pupils have the opportunity to write about their favourite sport or activity whilst demonstrating their knowledge of a range of punctuation marks. This is just one in a series of similar quizzes which can be found in my shop and which , when used on a regular basis , will help to raise levels of achievement. I include a word document which could be used as an extension task where pupils are asked to demonstrate their use of a variety of punctuation marks. All answers are provided for ease of marking. Suitable for ages 10 to 14 . These resources are intended to put pupils' knowledge of grammar and punctuation to the test and identify gaps in their understanding. Pupils are required to demonstrate their knowledge of questions and statements as well as make sense of lengthier paragraphs which have had all punctuation removed. They are provided with an opportunity to demonstrate their descriptive writing techniques by describing someone they admire. I include a quiz which is one of many similar quizzes to be found in my shop which test knowledge of various aspects of spelling and grammar. These resources can be easily tweaked to suit differing abilities. Answers are provided to the quiz to assist ease of marking.

This Powerpoint explains how adjectives are used to modify nouns. There is a cloze procedure exercise about "my favourite season" and also some anagram puzzles to solve. This resource is suitable for pupils aged 10 to 14 years. It could be used for revision purposes or as a stimulus for creative writing.

The activity asks students to identify different kinds of nouns and how some words can have a different meaning in different contexts. This is an animated Powerpoint presentation about homophones. It shows over fifty sets of homophones and gives examples of funny stories using words that sound the same but have different meanings in context. There are plenty of challenges for pupils to solve along the way. This resource is intended for use with 7 to 11 year olds but could also be used with older pupils for revision purposes. I include a more general grammar quiz where homophones is one of the sections questioned. Answers are included for ease of marking.

This Powerpoint could be used as a starting point for introducing verbs or as a revision aid. Students are asked to identify verbs, to substitute more powerful verbs and consider how selecting alternatives can alter the meaning of a given scene. A poem about the wind is included along with suggestions for creative writing using all five senses. I include a resource which which could be used for homework or revision purposes and encourages students to strengthen their writing skills and provides an opportunity to describe a favourite animal or pet. This resource might be used with pupils aged between 10 and 14 years.

A more challenging activity is provided where the students are given a passage regarding Victorian theatre and are required to re-write it identifying all proper nouns. This resource will make an ideal revision tool when revising grammar but also when studying information texts regarding Victorian Britain. Included is a more general spelling, punctuation and grammar quiz where proper nouns is just one of the topics featured. This resource is suitable for ages 10+

This power point is intended to inspire children to expand their sentences using adjectives. I used crystals as a starting point and asked the children to pass round four or five different types of crystal and think of a describing word. From the list of words we then expanded into sentences. From the sentences we expanded into a story about being lost in a cave. I encouraged the children to use all five senses to bring their descriptions to life. I include a more general spelling, grammar and punctuation quiz in which adjectives feature. All answers included. This resource is suitable for ages 6+

This Power Point looks at adjectives and nouns. Pupils are given animals and adjectives which describe them using the same initial letter. Students are asked to match adjectives and nouns with the same initial letter and then with different initial letters. Pupils are asked to make adjectives out of nouns ending in -ful and -ous. Examples are given when several adjectives are used to describe and so pupils need to use commas to separate. Students are required to think of different scenes such as being a football match or in a supermarket and think of five things that might be in that particular environment. This resource should prove useful when revising nouns and adjectives and the use of commas in a list. I include a more general spelling, punctuation and grammar quiz in which adjectives feature . This animated Power Point tells the story of a broken pot, which despite its obvious flaw, enables wonderful flowers to grow along the path's edge. This is a heart warming story which will inspire students to accept their weaknesses but aspire to keep trying and fulfil their potential as life-long learners. There are activities included such as questions about the story, analysing and ordering the key words, some discussion opportunities about identifying our own potential and that of others. Words beginning with pot are introduced and students have to match these with their definitions. They will discover that certain words can mean different things according to whether they are used as a noun, a verb or even a proper noun.
